Scent Sensation

Scent Sensation
Perfume is derived from the Latin words per fumum, meaning 'through smoke.' The art of perfumery was apparently known to the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and many other ancient nations.
Most perfumes are complex combinations of natural materials, such as essential oils from plants, and synthetic products that increase the lasting power and heighten the smell. Nowadays perfumes are available everywhere, ranging from the most expensive to the ones that you can buy with your pocket money. So, what are the differences? Read on to find out the things you should know before buying a bottle of scent.

Composition.
The liquid base for perfume is alcohol, and the ratio of alcohol to perfume concentrate determines what the final concoction is labeled. From highest concentration to least, the different forms of perfume are:

Perfume: This the purest form of scented product, and also is the most expensive in price. It contains 23-40% perfume concentrates.
Eau de perfume: This is the most popular and common form of perfume. It doesn't cost as much as perfume. It contains 15-22% perfume concentrates.
Eau de toilette: This concoction was originally intended to be a refreshing body splash to help people wake up in the morning. It has around 8-15% perfume concentrates.
Eau de cologne: this lightest form of perfume contains 4-8% perfume concentrates.

Lasting Effect.
The lasting effect of perfume from longest to shortest:
  • Perfume : Perfume stays on skin the longest, around 12 to 24 hours.
  • Eau de perfume: It stays on skin around 7 to 12 hours.
  • Eau de toilette : Since this kind of perfume stays on skin around 5 to 7 hours and the price isn't so expensive, it's good to be used on a daily basis.
  • Eau de cologne: It stays on skin around 3 to 4 hours.

A fragrance pervades the air best when worn behind the earlobe, the elbow front, the nape of the neck, wrist, and on hair. Those who exercise a lot should dip a piece of cotton wool into perfume and put it in the middle of their chest. It helps the scent to pervade softly, and body smells to cool lovely.

Do’s and Don’ts.
Here are some tips for you:
The do's:
§  Keep your fragrances safe from extreme cold or heat. Long exposure to strong sunlight or extremes in temperature can disturb the delicate balance of the perfume and change its scent.
§  Make it a rule never to try more than three scents at one time when you are shopping for a new fragrance. Your nose will lose its ability to tell the difference.
§  Apply fragrance directly to the skin when you are testing new scents. You can't base your opinion on just a smell from the bottle. Apply a few drops to your wrist. Allow the heat of the body to develop the fragrance on your skin and then sniff.
§  Apply perfume right after you shower. Your pores will be open and soak up the scent.
§  Avoid using perfume near pearl or costume jewelry. The alcohol in perfumes can cause pearls to yellow and can strip the coating off jewelry.

Don'ts:
§  Don't buy a new perfume without trying it first. A quick “over the counter” spray is rarely sufficient to judge whether it will be as good in a few minutes or even hours of time.
§  Don't put fragrance directly on fur or fabric. It may stain.
§  Don't be a copy cat. Fragrance is never the same on different people.
